In 1958, abstract expressionist Mark Rothko received his largest ever commission - murals for the Four Seasons Restaurant in the Seagram Building, a modernist skyscraper in the world’s centre of art and commerce. New York City.

Red is an examination of the conflicted mind of an artist who was driven by authenticity and emotional honesty but nevertheless agreed to create art for a building that he perceived as representing mass consumerism.

Poignant and passion filled, Red is a play about the delicate dance between art, commerce, the human condition and, finally, legacy.
