The Gladstone is greatly supported by its resident companies. This group of producers, which can be a mix of professional and community theatre companies, work collaboratively to elevate one another. This collaboration can include shared audition processes, resource and knowledge sharing, and participation in cross-promotion initiatives. Resident companies also commit to providing volunteer support for the Gladstone to advance its mission.

Ultimately, the resident companies are a group of people deeply invested in ensuring that the theatre survives and thrives. As of 2024, our resident companies are Bear & Co., Phoenix Players, Plosive Productions, and Three Sisters Theatre Co.

Why become a resident company?

The major benefit of resident company status is priority access to submit show date requests for the upcoming season calendar. Each resident company can book up to four weeks per year. resident companies also have access to unique opportunities such as professional development sessions, tailored resources, and collective marketing campaigns including advertising.

Without the financial commitment of a core group of producing companies, the Gladstone would be unable to sign long-term leases or employment contracts. Resident companies also provide volunteer hours to ensure the wellbeing of the Gladstone. For additional details, please visit the Industry FAQ section.

Can I become a resident company?

There is no formal limit on the number of resident companies but there is a practical one. As a hub for Ottawa’s independent theatre scene, it is important that the Gladstone balance bookings between resident companies, other local companies, and commercial companies.

Theatre companies interested in becoming a resident company must be local, have produced at least three shows at the Gladstone, and must commit to producing at least one theatrical production per season at the theatre.
