Impact of Pandemic on the Theatre
- So long as physical distancing of 2m is a health requirement, theatre seating is capped at 42 (capacity is usually 230).
- There is no business case for any producer to put a show in with rent at $3300/wk and the audience cap at 42.
- We are exploring rent reductions, but this will be a long term problem.
- Without rental income, which usually comprises 80% of TGT income, there will have to be grants/subsidies/donations sufficient to cover the remainder of the rent.
- Even with Rent (65% subsidy), Employment (65% subsidy), and Hydro (tba) subsidies, TGT expenses are over $6000/month.
Changes to Rental Agreements
- Changes to rental agreements include new Safe Spaces and Covid safety clauses
- Renters must have their own safe spaces policy or else adhere to TGT’s. An opening meeting with the renter’s entire team and a TGT rep will be standard with move in
- Renters must have a written covid safety plan for their production which is submitted to TGT at the time of signing the contract. In addition, the production’s producer/production manager, director, and stage manager must sign off on TGT’s covid safety plan.
- The TGT Covid Safety Plan is a living document which will be reviewed at least monthly. If anything seems missing or unclear, please let Robin know so that it can be updated.
Free Use Agreements for Recording and Livestreaming
When not rented out, the theatre is available to any local artist for recording or livestreaming their work. In lieu of rent, artists are asked to request that their followers/viewers donate to TGT if they are able.
Corporate Clients
TGT is actively seeking corporate clients who would like to seize the rare opportunity to film their industrial or ad material on stage, at the off season rental rate. Members are asked to refer anyone who might be interested to Robin at theatremanager@thegladstone.ca.
New Ticketing System
Vendini, our ticketing system of the last several years, is being decommissioned by its parent company on December 31. A new system (TicketSearch) has been identified which has additional functionality and a reduction in cost for the next 3 years. Huge thanks to Betsy for doing the majority of the research for a replacement system.
