Pierre Brault’s original break-out solo show, Blood on the Moon retells a fascinating and nasty bit of Canadian history: the trial and public hanging of James Patrick Whelan after he was convicted based on shaky evidence of assassinating the prominent politician Thomas D’Arcy McGee in 1868. The politics of Irish immigrants in Canada swirl around the storyline which sees Brault, ever a master of quick-silver role changes, enacting not just Whelan but other characters from a French-Canadian lumberjack to legal eagles. This multi-award winning show has toured across Canada and Ireland, a powerful mix of politics and justice which still resonates today.
“An utterly splendid performance… Brault is pure actor… a pleasure to watch.” – The Sunday Independent (Ireland)
“Pierre Brault’s one man hurricane of politics and history and injustice…is a towering performance. … Excellent.” – CBC Radio
“Riveting from beginning to end… Blood on the Moon packs the short, sharp, clean and precise punch of an assassin’s bullet.” – The Kitchener-Waterloo Record
“Riveting… a tour de force….” – The London Free Press Watch it on Facebook Live
