Stella and Dotty, two fesity, seventy-something, small town New Englanders, have weathered many a storm in their 30+ year relationship. But, when Dotty’s homophobic grand-daughter separates them by putting Dotty in a nursing home, the two embark on a Thelma & Louise-style road trip to Nova Scotia where they can be legally married. Along the way they pick up Prentice, a young dancer from New York City, who is hitchhiking home to Nova Scotia to visit his dying mother, and the three bond deeply as they travel.
Cloudburst debuted at the Plutonium Playhouse, Halifax in 2010 and was nominated for several Merritt Awards, Nova Scotia’s professional theatre awards. Canadian-American playwright Thom Fitzgerald won the Merritt Award for Outstanding New Play for Cloudburst. Toto Too Theatre is honoured to stage the Ottawa Premiere.
