Fans of Daniel MacIvor, rejoice! After bringing you Marion Bridge (Three Sisters Theatre) and How It Works (Plosive Productions), The Gladstone is thrilled to share with you not one but TWO more of MacIvor’s greatest hits. See Bob Run and Never Swim Alone helped catapult MacIvor into the pantheon of Canada’s foremost playwrights. Gladstone resident company Plosive Productions teams up with newcomer Sunny Ryan Productions for this exciting double bill.
by Daniel MacIvor directed by Teri Loretto featuring Sunny Ryan presented by Sunny Ryan Productions
Bob, a troubled young woman, is on the run from her dark past. As she hitchhikes her way to her destination she hops from one car to another and to another, telling her stories along the way. Stories of truth, lies, fairytales and murder.
This is a Canadian Actors’ Equity Association production under the Artists’ Collective Policy.
See Bob Run was first produced by da da kamera in 1989.
by Daniel MacIvor directed by David Whiteley presented by Plosive Productions
“Two men enter a room, a taller man and a shorter man, and each man carries a briefcase. The first man seems very much like the second man and the second man seems very much like the first man, but they are not. No. They are not for two reasons. One: one man is the first man, and two: one man in his briefcase has a gun.” With wickedly dark humour, MacIvor’s cautionary tale reveals how toxic masculinity poisons women and men alike, with harms ranging from merely devastating to outright deadly.
This is a Canadian Actors’ Equity Association production under the Artists’ Collective Policy.
Never Swim Alone was first produced in 1991 by da da kamera at Platform 9 Theatre in The Theatre Centre in Toronto.
Meet Your Producers!
Sunny Ryan Productions: Steph grew up in the country outside of Ottawa. She’s always had a passion for acting and studied at Algonquin College for Theatre Arts and Vancouver Film School-for Acting for Film and Television. Steph has recently discovered a new talent; writing and is currently in the process of creating a new medical drama series. She recently started up her own production company, Sunny Ryan Productions (she thought her character name in her medical drama was so catchy that she decided to use it for a stage name and named her production company after it) and is excited to have her first production and a “double bill” at The Gladstone Theatre.
Plosive Productions is a professional indie theatre artists collective, founded by Artistic Director David Whiteley. We produce shows at The Gladstone Theatre in the heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy. Our mission is to provide fulfilling, relevant and novel experiences for audiences and artists alike. We are proud to be based in Ottawa and honoured to be on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg people. We are committed to creating opportunities for local theatre artists, including veterans and emerging talent.
**Angel tickets are for any “Angel” who wants to go above and beyond in supporting Sunny Ryan and Plosive Productions. The Gladstone only retains the facility fee.
